“Hateful Things” on display Jan. 12 – Jan. 31
ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian College will be hosting the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia’s “Hateful Things” exhibit beginning January 12, 2009 through January 31. One of the objectives of the Jim Crow Museum is to “promote racial understanding and healing.”
The display is part of the traveling exhibit of the Ferris State University Jim Crow Museum, in Big Rapids. It is a collection of historical depictions of racist memorabilia from the 19th century to the present. A panel is provided for each of the images or objects that provide an explanation of why the objects are racist, and how they helped to perpetuate racism in American culture.
This is an important exhibit that will be available to Adrian College students, faculty and staff, as well as the general public. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. No photography is permitted. Please note that this exhibit is quite intense and emotional.
This historic exhibit will be on display at the Adrian College Shipman Library in the Heritage Room. The Heritage Room is open during the following hours: Monday through Thursday, 8:00 A.M. to 9:30 P.M.; Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.; Saturday, 1:00 P.M.- 5:00 P.M.; and Sunday, 1:00 P.M. to 9 P.M.
