In the Heritage Room: Myths, Mischief and Mahan

hist299Through the end of the semester we are hosting an exhibit of historical artifacts celebrating the 150th anniversary of the College. Myths, Mischief and Mahan was developed by students in History 299 with Professor Stephanie Jass. Here is her introduction:

“2009 marks a tremendous milestone for Adrian College. It is this year that we as a college community come together to celebrate the last 150 years.

The AC History on Display class was formulated with a specific task in mind. It was our duty to bring together all of the archives and memories to create a display for such an occasion. We spent weeks rummaging through old photos and yearbooks, and dusty College World newspapers, learning more about our school’s history with each item. Adrian College truly is the little college that could; the school that defied all odds, stall stands, and is prospering today.

It is with great pleasure that we present to you Myths, Mischief and Mahan: A closer look at Adrian College through the years. In this exhibit you will be sure to laugh and reminisce. You will see the myths of the rock, and of the Downs Hall ghost, the mischief of the freshman scraps, and learn about the history of Asa Mahan and the oxcart, as well as the academic aspects of the college. As you look into the past, be sure not to forget to look to the future. Adrian College is still expanding and the horizon looks bright up ahead. This sesquicentennial marks not only 150 years of past achievement, but many more yet to come.”

The exhibit is open during regular library hours through the end of the semester.
